Keep it out of the rain. Water gets into a maple deck through the grip tape and delaminates the plies, and a soaked board never pops the same again. Check the kingpin and axle nuts every few sessions.

Why seven ply maple is still the standard
Skateboard decks have been seven layers of cross laminated hard maple for decades because
nothing cheap has beaten it. The grain of each layer runs across the one below, so the deck
resists twisting while still flexing enough to pop.
Fewer plies is lighter and snaps sooner. More plies is stiffer and heavier and kills the pop.
Seven is the compromise that works.
Double kick and concave, in plain terms
Double kick means both ends turn up, so you can ollie off either end and ride switch without
the board caring which way round it is. Concave is the dip across the width, and it is what lets
your feet find the board without looking down.
Both are things a beginner appreciates without knowing why, and both are things a cruiser board
does not have.
The numbers that come with it
ABEC-9 bearings are high tolerance, which means the board rolls freely and keeps rolling.
95A wheels are on the harder end: fast and slidey on smooth concrete, chattery on rough pavement.
That combination is a skatepark setup rather than a rough pavement cruiser.
The 95A bushings in the trucks are what let you turn by leaning. If a new rider finds it twitchy
or stiff, the kingpin nut adjusts that in seconds and is worth trying before deciding the board is
wrong.
Size, and buying for a child
At 19.8 cm wide this is a standard adult width, which suits tricks and gives a smaller rider
room to grow. A very young or very small child is usually better on a narrower deck, and the age
guidance of six and up assumes a full size board is what they want.
Rain is the enemy
Water gets through the grip tape into the end grain and the plies separate. A deck that has
been left out in the wet feels dead, and no amount of drying brings it back. Wipe it down, keep it
inside, and it will last years.
Check the axle nuts and the kingpin every few sessions. Loose hardware is the most common cause
of a board that suddenly feels wrong, and it takes one tool and one minute to fix.
Wear the pads
Learning to ollie means falling over, repeatedly, on purpose. Wrists and elbows take most of
it. The seven piece pad set in this range is sized by head measurement and is the cheapest
insurance in the shop.
Every product page lists the measurement that decides it. Tell us the space you are working with and we will tell you straight whether this is the right thing for it. Free UK delivery on orders over £100.
